Why the Pelican Logo?

The pelican was adopted as the official logo for RubberMill in 1985. RubberMill's founder, who had an interest in birds, purchased a pelican carving while attending the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition in Charleston, SC. Upon returning from Charleston, he placed the carving on his desk. Later in the day, the evening sun cast a shadow of the pelican on the office wall. Liking what he saw, he traced an outline of the shadow on a cardboard box and the logo was born.

The pelican...RubberMill's logo

A wonderful bird is the Pelican,
His bill can hold more than his belican.
He can take in his beak
Food enough for a week;
But I’m damned if I see how the helican.

by Dixon Lanier Merritt
(often incorrectly attributed to Ogden Nash)
